Gõ Nhanh is a free, fast, and stable Vietnamese input method. Install it and go: no ads, no account, no network at all.

The idea

Typing Vietnamese should be invisible. The best input method is the one you forget is there: quick to learn, predictable under pressure, and out of your way. Gõ Nhanh speaks Telex and VNI, places tone marks by the modern rules, and stays under ten milliseconds a keystroke on about twenty megabytes of memory, so nothing ever sits between you and the text.

Out of your way

The hard part of an input method is the edges, not the happy path. Gõ Nhanh restores an English word the moment you press space, so text stops turning into têt; it undoes a mistaken Vietnamese character on Escape; it remembers whether it was on or off for each app; and it steps aside on its own when you switch to Japanese, Korean, or Chinese. It capitalizes after a sentence, expands text macros (vn into Việt Nam), and behaves the same in a browser, an IDE, or a terminal.

Open by default

The whole thing is open source, under BSD-3-Clause, because an input method sees everything you type; trust has to be inspectable, not promised. It is written in Rust and Swift, runs entirely offline, and is free forever. macOS is the home build; Linux and Windows are in beta. Contributions and issues are welcome.
